Although gaming consoles are gradually improving and reducing the energy use with regulations and development, gaming PC’s have not been equally scrutinized. An article on eenews.net tells how 15 year old Nathaniel Mills and his father Evan brought attention to the large amount of energy gaming PC’s consume. Nathaniel built a game computer with the most popular cpu, motherboard and graphic card. With a watt meter he monitored the energy consumption and found that it used as much as six normal PC’s would use. Nathaniel and his father then swapped out hardware components, and were able to reduce the energy consumption to 50% without decreasing the performance. The results of Nathaniels investigation has been published in the journal Energy Policy.
